I was trying to come up with something to post on this blog when I started to think about my cat Tigger, who died last summer. She was run over by a speeding car. I never saw the “accident” but my neighbor knocked on my door to tell me what happened. He showed me where it happened and there she was. Yeah, I did cry a little and was quite sad for a little while.

I miss Tigger, and think of her often. (No, the picture on the left isn’t her, but that’s exactly what she looked like, a beautiful tabby.) But most of all I think of all the funny things that she did. I remember one day when she climbed on one of my bigger indoor plants knocking it down on the living room rug. Man, was I pissed – dirt and plant material all over my one year old rug. I threw her outside and after I calmed down I went outside to look for her.

I started to get mad again, because I found a dead bird outside my back door. I went around to the front and found another dead bird outside my front door as well. Not good at all. After another couple hours or so I finally saw Tigger approach me just outside my garage door with something in her mouth…

…another dead bird. I just stared. Tigger then proceed to drop the bird off at my feet. What??? She meowed and backed off. That’s when I realized that Tigger was trying to apologize to me for destroying my plant.

I felt bad and very quickly forgave her and couldn’t help but smile and take her back into my arms. We all have ups and downs in all types of relationships we have whether it is with people or with pets.

I’m selling my house soon so I don’t have another pet yet. Once I settle in to my other house I’ll see if I can find another Tigger.

Meanwhile…my thoughts were on funny things that cats do that just cannot help but make their owners smile and laugh.

So with that, I hope you enjoy some of my favorite funny cat videos from Youtube.

By Thomas Clark

Fortunately, not all canines are created equal. The differences in every individuals vary from one another and the same goes with the variation among the disposition and personality of each dog breeds. The key to be successful with your efforts to bring home a dog is knowing which breed of dog can be suitable to you or your home. There are a great deal of different dog types that are known to the world, not to mention those produced as cross-types like in the form of Labradoodle which is a fusion of a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle.

Obviously, asking yourself with – “what size of dog can your family handle?” is the mere question that you should consider. A large dog can have enough space to run and play when placed in a house in the suburbs with a large yard.

Is a well-built dog but is cuddly enough and can get along well playing with children something that you wish to have?

Are you hoping to get a watchdog for your home or business? Are you the competitive type of person that you even want to train a dog that you can compete with others as a show dog? Perhaps you would want to choose a pet that can be your best buddy as it can go with your simple way of resting such as watching Television all day and with size suitable enough in your apartment. In searching for the kind of dog breed that may be right for you, these things are in reality practical enough to be considered.

Consider the number of individuals living in your home. If you are a single individual, you might want a pet that needs not much of an attention and can be left alone inside your house while you go working all throughout the day and he would just keep himself busy by playing with his toys or sleeping all day.

A medium to large-size dog is what a home with small kids might need since most of them are gentle and patient with kids by nature. Treating dogs similar to a toy is something that you can expect from small children – they don’t know that a dog is not something they should involve in their roughhousing since they are just one of those living and breathing animals that they might hurt.

Some breeds would not tolerate the antics of small children, but would be great with older children. older adults are best with the kinds of dogs which are calm, demand not much of a time and effort as well as maintenance.

Dogs can also be divided into two fundamental classes – dogs that tend to shed and those dogs that don’t really lose hair. One of those issues that most dog owners complain about is the shedding of their dogs. May it be to your clothing, furniture or even to your guests who would tend to sit in any part of your house, dog hair is more likely to be found clinging on.

Short haired dogs may look simpler but they can lose hair, too. You can divide shedding with the barely shedding, seasonal only dropping hair and constant shedding hair.

Both the height and weight issue are important things that you should think about when choosing the size of the breed. The weight of a variety of dog types may come with the weight of smaller dogs which can be less than 10 pounds, medium dogs weighing eleven to twenty five pounds, large dogs can weigh twenty six to fifty pounds and extra large dogs weigh 51-80 pounds. extremely large dogs, like Mastiffs and St. Bernards, can tip the scale at one hundred to one hundred and eighty pounds.

Is your furniture tough enough to stand anything that a dog can do? pick out a dog breed based on its potential size or how it would turn out to be as an adult and not as what you would want him as a puppy since your dog will grow up soon. Anticipate big dogs to eat a lot of food to satisfy themselves. If you bring home a Mastiff, you may need another job just to pay for the dog food and care.

Care demands are another fundamental consideration. More grooming and care may be involved of some dog breeds while some of them can go with the basics. Those fancy trims are for show dogs like poodles and they too, would need or be given by some dog owners more time spent in the spa more than they pamper themselves.

Even ordinary family dogs may need weekly (or even daily) grooming to keep their coats from tangles and to preserve good physical health. You should be able to give time in doing some proper research with regards to the vital info about the dog breed such as its size, temperament and grooming requirements. It’s only fair to the dog you select that you be prepared to care for basic needs, plus provide the love and attention that only you can give.

By Kor Rassad

Raising chickens is a rewarding pasttime that can be performed anywhere in the world, no matter what type of environment you live in. You can get a regular supply of fresh eggs that you know won’t contain any sort of chemicals or unnatural hormones. Even if you live in an urban environment and had thought that you didn’t have the space or the right sort of facilities, chances are good that if you use a small chicken coop you can easily raise chickens of your own.

Of course, this means you won’t be able to raise as many birds as maybe you’d like to, but you can still raise one or two chickens even if you live in cramped suburbia, just as long as you have at least a small patch of grass or dirt for them to stretch their legs on. There’s a difference, after all, between a small chicken coop and a cramped one.

The basic space requirements for your birds should be as follows:

* At least 4 square feet of space per bird in the coop itself.

* At least 10 square feet of space per bird in the chicken run, or outside section of the coop.

* At least 9 horizontal feet of perch space for your chickens to sleep on.

Keep these space requirements in mind, and you can ensure that your hens will lay plenty of eggs. Stressed birds will lay fewer eggs, and cramped birds are stressed birds, so that’s why this is important even when building a small chicken coop.

Some Design Ideas

In essence, what you will be building is a regular-sized chicken coop, only scaled down to house two or three birds instead of a whole flock. You’ll still want to follow all the tips and tricks of designing and building a home for your chickens.

For example:

* Include adequate ventilation ” Adding a window to your coop’s design will make sure your birds get fresh air and stay healthy. Chickens don’t like to be too hot or too cold, and ventilation will keep them comfortable. * Build a perch ” When they sleep, chickens like to be able to perch off the ground for safety in the wild. It’s no different in captivity, so make sure they have somewhere they can feel safe while sleeping. * Try adding a nesting box ” Nesting boxes can encourage your hens to lay eggs in one place, which makes it much easier for you to collect them. This will also encourage some chickens to lay in the first place, as they will feel safer in the box.

In a small chicken coop, of course, you will also want to limit size. Don’t go overboard and add all the convenient features you can think of. It is a good idea to be able to get into the coop yourself, though, as this makes cleaning much easier.

For construction materials, if your coop is outside you’ll want to make sure that the walls are constructed of something solid that your birds can feel safe in. Coops with walls entirely of wire are not usually a good idea, as it will stress out your chickens. However, wire is good for keeping the external runs safe from predators, so don’t discount that out of hand, either.

Talk about being home sick. Muffy, a small dog, was abandoned in the the city of Melbourne Australia. After being lost for the past nine years ( that’s 9 full years), Muffy came home. Muffy was a bit scruffy when she was found but she’s doing just fine now. I can just imagine the adventures this little pooch must have had and the people or other animals she (or he) must have had.

The incredible part is that the dog’s owner’s live in Brisburn, Australia and Muffy was found 2000 kilometers away (over 1240 miles).

and let me know what you think of this miracle.

Does your animal have a job? Through animal communication you can learn what role he is playing in your life, what job he has, or what job he would like.

by Soo Winter

Does your animal have a job? Through animal communication you can learn what role he is playing in your life, what job he has, or what job he would like.

He may already guard the house, or make you laugh, or bring you comfort when you are lonely, but does he want to do more?

Their jobs may be as simple as cheering you up, encouraging you to go for a walk, or interrupting you work. Yes this is a job too. Your pet is asking you to lighten up, take it easy and have some fun.

Through learning animal communication you can help them. By talking directly with your animals, sharing their thoughts and feelings, you can identify any needs that need addressing. You might be surprised at what advice you receive about your own life too!

By learning how to communicate with your animals you can discuss their needs and find out what their purpose is. This makes a much happier home where everyone is valued for their input, and it can even solve a behaviour problem. Sometimes an animal can act up, simply because he feels redundant.

Watch your animals. You will see clues in their behavior. Does your dog interrupt you, insisting it’s time for a game? This isn’t for his benefit, it’s for yours! He’s telling you to lighten up, take some time out and have some fun.

Does one particular animal always appear when you are feeling down? Then this is your comforter! Another might encourage you to get some fresh air, or make you laugh, or simply be an unselfish companion who loves you unconditionally. Thank them, for they take their jobs seriously and, like us, they will blossom with praise.

Animal communication opens up your world. It’s like a light bulb going on. Suddenly your animal’s behavior and antics make sense, and if they have been trying to get your attention by acting up, you’ll find that once you listen to them, the unwanted behavior stops. Animal communication is a blessing for you, your animals, the whole family and one I believe we should all accept with open arms.

by Joshua Biggar

Snakes. Just the mention of the word can send chills up the spine or send one fleeing in the opposite direction. To some they are just scary, slithery, sinister serpents. However, they are also sneaky. Yes, sneaky. The serpent has been known for its sneakiness since the beginning. Remember Eve? It was because of the sneaky sales pitch of the serpent that Eve “bought”, Adam “bit” , and they were both “booted out” of the Garden of Eden. Oh yes, snakes can be extremely sneaky, and can show their craftiness in a variety of ways.

The American Copperhead is a great example of a cunning culprit. This snake has a rust and copper colored body with dark crisscrossing bands. It has a bright copper colored head, hence the name, Copperhead. This snake is easily recognizable, that is if you see it. Because of the snake’s markings, they are easily hidden. Let this snake curl up on a pile of fallen leaves and you may never even know it was there. Pretty slick huh? But that’s not all.

These snakes learn how to be masters of guile at a very early age, as a matter of fact from the moment they are born. The baby Copperhead is born with a yellow tipped tail which it uses to lure unsuspecting prey. The juvenile snake hides beneath the leaves and sticks its wiggling tail up. The tail, resembling a grubworm, attracts moles, mice, and other such rodents. When the small mixed-up mammals take the bait, the clever Copperhead enjoys his dinner.

Besides being deceitful for dinner, snakes also use their misleading mannerisms to protect themselves. The colorful yet, allusive Coral Snake, for instance, will curl up and hide its head underneath its body when it feels threatened. Then it bends and presents its tail in such a way that it looks just like the snake’s head. When a predator attempts to attack, the snake bites back injecting neurotoxic venom paralyzing its victim. The predator in this case sometimes becomes the prey.

Just as the Coral Snake has an ingenious way of protecting itself, so does the Coral Snake Copy Cat, the Scarlet King snake. This snake uses its looks to confound and confuse. The nonvenomous Scarlet King snake very much resembles the very venomous Coral Snake. The king snake has the same colors of red, black, and yellow. The difference, however, is in the pattern. The old rhyme “Red meets yellow, Kill a fellow, Red meets black, Friend of Jack”, helps us to aptly identify the snake, but thoroughly mixes up would be predators and sometimes helps prevent this “legless lizard” from becoming lunch.

Yes, snakes are still as sneaky as ever. They still bewilder, beguile, and sometimes even bewitch. They are masters of disguise as well as masters of deception and they probably always will be. So if you happen up on one of these “sneaky snakes”, just acknowledge, admire, and then allow him to do his thing.

by Jenny Coleman

If there’s a dog breed that is as noble as a lion, as whimsically amusing as a panda, as adorable as a teddy bear, as graceful and independent as a cat and as loyal and devoted as a true dog breed, then that is no other than the Chow Chow. Believed to be in existence for than 4000 years, the Chow Chow is considered as one of the most ancient of dog breeds which thought to have first appeared in Mongolia. In China, countless Chinese ancient arts depicted a lion-like dog that is believed to be the ancestors of the Chow Chow.

In recent DNA testing efforts, the fact was revealed that the Chow Chow is one of the oldest breed of dogs and that it is one of the first descendants of the wolf which resided in the northern parts of China and Mongolia. Some believes that the Chow Chow is originally from the Arctic Circle and only migrated later on to Siberia, China and Mongolia. Experts also conclude that the Chow Chow is the predecessor of several modern breeds such as the:

- Pomeranian

- Samoyed

- Keeshond

- and the Norwegian Elkhound

In ancient China where this breed was firstly seen, it was used mainly as a hunting dog, a cart-puller and a boat guard. According to history, one emperor was so fond of this dog that he owned as many as 2500 Chow pairs, all of which accompanied his 10,000 hunters. Its meat was also eaten by the Chinese and is considered as a delicacy. In more recent times, popularity of the Chow Chow was manifested through famous people’s adoration of it just like President Calvin Coolidge’s Chow named Timmy.

The Chow Chow is a unique kind of dog and a lot of owners don’t understand this kind of personality and so misconceptions often arise. Owners who do not fully understand the characteristics of Chows tend to mistreat and mishandle the dog and these results to a disconcerting disposition of the dog. The best thing that owners can do, however, is to research well about the Chow Chow so they may understand the special trainings and unique treatments that the dog needs.

The Chow Chow is dignified and noble in temperament and is generally a one-person kind of dog therefore it often chooses to be alone when there are a lot of chaotic people around it. It doesn’t mean, however, that this breed does not like to socialize for it does love meeting new people only when it is trained to be so at an early stage. Chows who are raised to be social can live with cats and other dogs inside the house and can be accepting to strangers but only when being introduced gently by the master.

This breed reacts well to owners who has firm and imposing tone, is consistent and confident. People who own or will own a Chow Chow should develop these characters in order to instill to the dog that the master is the leader and should be obeyed pertinently. A Chow Chow is active and participative in activities that it doesn’t know how to do yet at first but when such activities become repetitive, it becomes bored and would turn away and ignore commands indefinitely.

The Chow Chow is not one of the best breeds in terms of obedience and intelligence and in fact it only ranks 76th in Stanley Cohen’s The Intelligence of Dogs. For the most pat of the day, the Chow is rather inactive and just stays indoors to rest and be placid. This temperament allows it to be suitable in an apartment style of living; however, it still needs daily exercise in order for it to be healthy mentally and physically.

This breed is wrapped all over with a fluffy, double coat of hair and its head is surrounded by bushy hairs giving it a lion kind of appearance. Moreover, the Chow is one of the rare breeds that have a black/blue or purple colored tongue, a hairy and curled tail and stick straight hind legs that give it a stiff gait. The most common coat colors of this breed are red, black, blue, cinnamon, fawn and cream.
