But warm weather, especially during summer time, it seems that we always bear the brunt of brutally dangerous weather that can not only cause destruction but also death. The good part, I guess, that comes of this is that there is always a miracle happening somewhere.

But when some experience weather conditions that they usually never get, then we need to ask ourselves if maybe…just maybe…we have something to do with it. Are we fooling with Mother Nature so much with our pollution going out of control, that she lifts her hand in anger.

Check this video out about some “Amazing Weather” that Toronto, Canada experienced on August 9, 2009. In some places, this may seem normal, but not according to Torontonians.

I feel sorry for my neighbors in Toronto. While we are experiencing nice summer weather (finally) here in Winnipeg, Toronto may be in for even more severe weather.

Typhoon MorakotThe weather is getting bad all over the world. Typhoon Morakot slammed into Taiwan where a lot of people are feared dead. Read more about Typhoon Morakot. There’s also another good story on this weather disaster from Irish Times.

Update – August 17, 2009: Since Typhoon Morakot slammed Taiwan last week over 500 people have died and thousands are still stranded. Efforts to help those in need will be ongoing for the foreseeable future.

Meantime, here’s a YouTube video on this typhoon as it made landfall over Haualien city on the east coast of Taiwan.

Now…I wish I could do something to help these people. Hey, I’ve got an idea. I should get them to come to this blog and watch the Severe Weather Video below. The only thing they need to do is to turn the volume of their computer speakers as h i g h as it can go. This is cool. I hope you like. it.

Living on the coast…any coast…can be a very dangerous affair with Mother Nature if you’re not careful with her. Massive floods have crept up on populations all over the world in its bid to keep coast lines the domain of marine dwelling animals.

Amish-beach-houseBut the coast is a lure that is hard to resist, so we risk our lives for the serenity, beauty and power that only coastal living can bring. But risking life on the coast doesn’t have to be a crap shoot. There are ways to manage that risk.

If you are intent on living by the sea, you should talk to this Amish family from Missouri in the United States. Their previous home in Texas was destroyed by Hurricane Ike that made landfall over Galveston Texas on September 13, 2008. (Talk about a bad luck day).  Hurricane Ike was one of the most destructive hurricanes to ever hit the United States and this Amish family wasn’t going to let it happen ever again.

I don’t know about the rest of the world but the weather here in North America is becoming more treacherous every year. With global warming making our oceans prime feeding grounds for hurricanes, how can man ever hope to control Mother Nature.

hurricaneOne thing we need to be aware of is that in everything there are usually two sides. Our yearning for growth and ever improving technology has consequences, and Mother Nature always makes sure you know about it.

I brought this post up because I was watching a television show called “Doc Zone”. The title of the day’s show was called, of course, “How To Stop A Hurricane”.  Inside this link there is an excerpt of a video of the show which you can watch online.

There is also a second video that I thought was very interesting which I found on YouTube which is only about 10 minutes long. You can watch that below.

Personally I don’t think we can or should even try to control weather, but if I were actually asked for an opinion on how we actually can stop a hurricane I would say – STOP POLUTING OUR PLANET.

Tomorrow is Winter…Yippie (just kidding). The Winter Solstice 2008 is here at 5:04 AM Central Time (12:04 Universal Time). For those that don’t know what the Winter Solstice is, it is the point when our Sun appears the furthest South in the sky. This is our first day of Winter, the day when we have the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

For those South of the equator, it is also the longest day of the year. People in Australia are basking in the warm Sun as they are now enjoying their beautiful summer weather. Yep, our weather up here in the north is opposite to that of those in the South. Go figure…

The best thing I like about the Winter Solstice, is that from that point on our days start getting longer and longer; which means more and more sun. Actually, we never had much sun up here this summer, so big deal. We had more cloudy days than I care to remember. But hey, I’ll welcome some extra vitamin D any day.

One thing about the Winter Solstice is that many cultures around the world consider it a time of rebirth as they get together for festivals and celebrations.  These traditions have been going on for centuries.

For those of you who are curious, the word strong>solstice comes from the Latin word “sol” which means sun.  The word “sistere” means to stand still.  For 2008 there will be 2 astronomical events like this.  The winter solstice starts tomorrow on December 21st.  On June 21st, we will celebrate our Summer Solstice.  I can’t wait.

This astronomical event takes place two times each year. This years 2008 winter solstice is on December 21st and the 2009 summer solstice takes place on June 21.

Residents across the nation’s northern tier, but still south of where I come from, have been forced to endure a wave of wintry blasts on the this last day of autumn. The conditions have snarled traffic and created a nightmare for many air travelers. (Dec. 20)…Good thing I work at home, huh?

To help fight off winter, we usually need certain tools to make that fight easier.  The most favored winter tool is, of course, the snowblower…

New snowblowers are selling, but the recession isn’t helping.  A lot of people are getting laid off their jobs and are trying to conserve cash.  But they still want their snowblower, so a lot of people are looking for used snowblowers.  Snowblowers are really hot right now and for good reason.  Only trouble is, not too many people want to part with their “favorite winter tool”.

So if you have a snowblower you want to part with…OR…you are looking for a snowblower, why not leave a comment and place your ad with a picture.  No promises on any takers, but hey, it’s worth a try…
