Reasons Why Work-At-Home Moms Can Weather the Recession

by Benedict Hunter

It’s all over the papers and prime time news broadcast. Thousands of workers everywhere in the United States are losing their jobs each and every month for two straight years now and the number of unemployed is growing at a steady rate. A lot of people who have jobs at the moment are spending sleepless nights worrying if the next working day will be their last day on the job.

With the economy continuing on its downward spiral, it wouldn’t be surprising that a lot of people are considering some alternatives to a 9 to 5 job. One of the most practical alternative is a work-at-home career which is getting to be popular especially among moms who would rather spend more time with their family.

Work-at-home moms have a bigger edge over those who are struggling in the marketplace because of several reasons.

More money saved

A lot of people think that moms who work from home save money just on commuting. In fact, there are a lot of expenses that vanish or are drastically cut back when a woman sets her mind to become a work-at-home mom. There’s no more need to drive to and from the workplace and childcare expense is whittled down to nearly nothing.

Some work-at-home moms, however, still prefer to put their youngsters in day care a few times a week or hire another mom’s help to keep the young ones engaged while they work, but the cost is significantly lower than full-time care.

There are a lot of minor expenses that are slashed as well. For instance, most working persons eat lunch at a restaurant or local deli. Just $10 each workday can add up in a month and if you stop for coffee at Starbucks on your way to the office, then it actually translates into quite a bundle. These expenses disappear when you work at home. If you start your own business, then you can save on overhead expenses, too, if you work at home.

More quality time

Working mothers are concerned that they’re not spending adequate time with their kids. Although work-at-home moms can be occupied, they do have the opportunity to be with their kids more often and since they’re no longer commuting, this means additional hours of pleasure watching over their precious ones.

An added benefit for moms working at home is being able to work once the children are in bed. The most thriving careers do take a lot of work and that can be better accomplished when you aren’t confined in an office away from your loved ones.

Dedicated passion

It’s easy to develop a dangerous complacency in your daily rat race where nothing you accomplish actually makes any significant change in the amount of money you take home every payday. When you’re operating your own home business, it’s a lot easier to immerse yourself in it and you’re inspired to work harder because of your dedication to your work, something that nearly always makes a winner.

Moms who work at home are well on their way to face whatever challenge this worsening economy has to hurl at them. They are pliant, dedicated to their work and determined enough to see their business through these hard times.
