This is the top 10 list of negotiating tips you need when you are about to buy a used car. Nifty used car buyers are familiar with these, and you will probably find some tips you haven’t yet thought of.

1. It is important that you feel good about the salesman you are to deal with. Don’t dismiss it if you feel uncomfortable in any way. Usually we feel almost instantly if the “chemistry” is working. Thus, if you don’t feel at ease with the salesman you should trust that feeling, there is likely to be a reason for that.

2. This is one of the negotiating tips for used car buying that if ignored gets people into trouble. Decide on a limit ahead of time and if your limit is reached, leave.

3. Start the negotiating with an offer that is in the lower but plausible range.

4. Don’t fall for the rush-trick! Sales agents often try to press you into making a hasty decision by making it seem as if you are going to lose in some way if you wait. Stay cool and visit more than one dealer to compare prices and conditions.

5. This is one of my favorite negotiating tips for used car buying If you feel like leaving for any reason leave. In fact you could even plan ahead of time to unexpectedly have the need to leave for lunch or some other reason and sort of leave the salesman hanging.

6. Prepare yourself to walk out of the deal if you find that the sales agent are in any way dishing you. Go to another car dealer if you are not stopped before you reach the door.

7. Make it a habit to say no to every offer on “extras” that the salesman try to throw in the deal.

8. Emanate self confidence.

9. Know the vehicle you want ahead of time and ignore all attempts to try to steer you toward anything else.

10. Sly tactic: If another sales agent suddenly appear before you have agreed on the deal, this is most likely to try to improve the price (but not for you). Don’t let it confuse you-
